Progress
Vigo County Animal Coalition has:
- Instituted a single phone line (232-SPAY) for information related to the services of all members, whether that is spay/neuter, adoption, donations, animals in need, animal abuse, stray animals, neglected animals, animals needing rescue, or other animal related issues
- Organized "Warm Straw for Chilly Paws" to provide straw bedding to pet owners in need, to make a warm shelter for their outdoor pets over the cold winter
- Recruited volunteers to help with several fundraisers of the member organizations such as a telethon for the Terre Haute Humane Society that raised $12,000 toward care of homeless cats and dogs
- Organized and carried out a week-long Spay – Neuter Awareness Week campaign in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Look for this again in 2010.
- Worked with City and County lawmakers toward animal regulations that are reasonable, enforceable and effective.
- Brought the plight of animals to the forefront for City and County Council members and Mayor, resulting in over $65,000 being committed to spay and neuter of pets belonging to the lowest income residents.
- Applied for $50,000 in grants for member organizations
- Improved communication and relationships between member organizations through monthly meetings since May 2007
To have a lasting impact, we must continue the progress on all fronts.
